Surveyor 3
Where do I start with this one?
This is a 1/7 scale model of the Surveyor 3 probe which landed on the moon in the spring of 1967.
In November of 1969, Pete Conrad and Alan Bean visited Surveyor 3 on the second moonwalk of the apollo 12 mission, after landing just over 600 feet from the actual little space pioneer, removing a number of parts which were brought back to Earth for analysis to see how the hardware stood up to the harsh lunar environment for over 2 1/2 years.
This model was built for Alan Bean from his private collection of numerous photos.
Drawings for the model had to be done and approved by Alan prior to constructing the model as there were no drawings of Surveyor available.
As this was to be used as a massing model by Alan for his paintings, ( Alan is a very accomplished space artist) the model had to be approved for accuracy during the construction phase of the project.
It was an honor and a pleasure to work with Alan on this project.
