On March 17, 1958, A Vanguard launch vehicle rose from Cape Canaveral for the third time, placing in orbit a grapefruit-sized satellite named Vanguard 1.
This highly successful satellite accumulated about 6 years of data about the earth, including data about its shape and spin, and today remains in orbit as the oldest human artifact in space.
This replica is finished as the historic TV-4 and is a fitting tribute to one of the first highly successful space missions in U.S. space history.
