Surveyor 3

Model Descrption
This is a 1/7 scale model of the Surveyor 3 probe which landed on the moon in the spring of 1967.
In November of 1969, Pete Conrad and Alan Bean visited Surveyor 3 on the second moonwalk of the apollo 12 mission. After landing just over 600 feet from the actual little space pioneer, they removed a number of parts and then brought them back to Earth for analysis to see how the hardware stood up to the harsh lunar environment for over 2 1/2 years.
This model was built for Alan Bean using his private collection of photos to draw the model. Drawings for the model had to be approved by Alan prior to constructing it as no drawings of Surveyor 3 were available.
As Alan planned to use this model for his paintings ( Alan is a very accomplished space artist), the model had to be approved for accuracy during the construction phase of the project.
It was an honor and a pleasure to work with Alan on this project.
