The Space Launch System (SLS) is NASA's super heavy-lift expendable launch vehicle. It is replacing the Space Shuttle program and is part of NASA's deep space exploration plans including a crewed mission to Mars. Exploration Mission 1 is an unmanned test of the SLS and NASA's Orion spacecraft.  It is currently scheduled for launch in late 2021.
