The Artemis program is a Moon exploration program led by NASA, and was formally established in 2017.
The program’s purpose and primary mission is two-fold.
It is to reestablish a human presence on the Moon for the first time since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972, with a stated long-term goal of establishing a permanent base on the Moon.
Once established, Artemis is currently scheduled to begin facilitating human missions to Mars.
