MERCURY PROGRAM

The Mercury Program was the true launch of the U.S. space program and was NASA's first mission to send a man into space. These Mercury spacecraft models celebrate the six manned flights that took place from 1961-1962.  It successfully achieved the Mercury Program's goals of orbiting a manned spacecraft around Earth, investigating mans ability to function in space and safely recovering the astronauts and spacecraft.
